SummerSlam
will take place on the 17th of August at the Staples Centre in LA.
The match
card looks like this:
Rusev vs. Jack
Swagger (Flag match)
AJ Lee vs. Paige (Divas Championship)The Miz vs. Dolph Ziggler (Intercontinental Championship)
Randy Orton vs. Roman Reigns
Stephanie McMahon vs. Brie Bella
Bray Wyatt vs. Chris Jericho
Dean Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins (Lumberjack match)
Brock Lesnar vs.
John Cena (WWE World
Heavyweight Championship)
RVD
vs. Cesaro (pre-show)
The
match order/times were recently leaked (God knows how that happened) but I will
not be revealing them here as I don’t want to ruin anything for anyone, I do
kind of regret reading about it myself. Anyway let’s get straight into it; this
card is STRONG, stronger than Wrestlemania imo. Every single match has the
potential to be incredible, I’m seriously hoping it delivers in every aspect, WWE
cannot afford to have this PPV being simply mediocre or ending up like
Battleground, especially since the time for renewing the Network is creeping
up.
The
Rusev/Swagger feud has lost momentum; when this feud first began, I was excited
and it certainly delivered through its promos/build ups and got the fans
excited. Swagger losing at Battleground has me thinking that he will be
victorious here which doesn’t weaken Rusev at all imo, as it is a flag match so
no pinning clean will be involved.
AJ
vs. Paige did not deliver at Battleground, I had such high expectations so that
could possibly be why… but they just were not gelling well and it was very
clear to see. Post-Battleground, the build has been pretty decent, Paige turned
heel (finally) but I’m glad WWE are giving them time to show their personalities
and giving them a genuine build. This HAS to be the pay off. This is the one
female match that fans have wanted to see and I have wanted to see for months,
even before Paige debuted on the main roster. Let’s hope their chemistry at
SummerSlam will be better than what we saw at Battleground. I see AJ retaining
here.
The
Miz vs. Ziggler should deliver, because of Ziggler. They had a great match a
few weeks ago on Raw and from what I saw, that was because of Ziggler. He can
go in the ring in every way possible. The Miz has never entertained me and I’ve
never been a fan so I’m hoping WWE finally let Ziggler have his moment and give
the fans what we want…It doesn’t matter where he is on the card or how he is
booked, fans continue to root for him and that’s because we see his talent.
Ideally, Ziggler should win here but I have a bad feeling Miz will retain.
Orton
vs. Reigns is a MASSIVE opportunity for Roman… this is his first singles match
on a PPV and his biggest singles match so far in his career. He has to deliver
here, no doubt about that. I’m a big fan of Roman and I know people are already
hating on him due to this push he’s getting but I only see him getting better
and better. Yes, his mic work is weak and he has his on and off days with that
but I’m sure WWE must be working on that with him. There’s nowhere else but up
for this guy and I see him going over here. You can never really have a bad
match with Orton… he’s been seen as stale lately but he constantly delivers in
the ring. This match HAS to deliver, end of.
Wyatt
vs. Jericho imo has Wyatt going over. It has to. There would be no logical
reason for Wyatt to lose here. Their match at Battleground was okay, nothing
special imo but SummerSlam gives them a massive opportunity, to show why
Jericho will always be seen as one of the best and why Wyatt is on his way to
superstardom.
Ambrose vs. Rollins in a Lumberjack
match is what I am most looking forward to. When I found out a stipulation was
going to be added to this match, I was excited and thought it would add SO much
more to this match. Finding out the stip would be a lumberjack match was the
biggest disappointment and imo will take away from the match, I would rather
them fight a traditional one-on-one match rather than this, but it is what it
is. Plus its Ambrose and Rollins, I have 100% faith in them that they will
deliver despite this stip and they could potentially steal the show. Ambrose
will be taking some time off to film “Lockdown” a WWE movie that he is starring
in, so he will be written off of TV soon but I’m hoping this feud remains and
culminates in a big match at HIAC. Due to this I do see Rollins picking up the
victory here but it could go either way.
Steph vs. Brie has had a major build to
it. A female rivalry closing out Raw TWICE is not common and will not be seen
again anytime soon. I love personal grudge rivalries so I am looking forward to
this. To be honest, what I’m most looking forward too, is seeing Steph in
wrestling gear and watching her in the ring. It’s been over 10 years since she
last competed. Fans are definitely eager to simply see that. I see Steph
winning here, with one final match at NOC. I do think that this match was
booked in order to keep Daniel Bryan relevant and involved with a WWE storyline
despite taking time off to recover. I hope to see him back soon; get well soon D-Bry.
Cena vs. Lesnar has been booked
perfectly. I have read some fans
complaining about the fact that these two only had one in ring confrontation
but imo, the fact that they have not touched and the anticipation for it, is
what has made this so great. Cena has surprisingly provided us with some great
promos, not his usual jokey crap and Paul Heyman, well what can I say about
Heyman? The man is magic. His mic work has been the highlight of this match
build for me. I see Lesnar winning here, he HAS to, it makes zero sense for him
to lose to Cena after breaking the streak. He has to be seen as a beast that
can tear through anyone. I don’t mind having a part time WWE World Heavyweight
Champion, I know a lot of fans complain about that but if it brings more
prestige to other titles, and gives World title matches more anticipation and excitement,
then I’m all for it.
Surprisingly, the tag titles are not
being defended at SummerSlam, which is ridiculous. They should have been put on
Harper/Rowan from the Usos at Battleground. I’m guessing that both teams will
be Lumberjacks in the Rollins/Ambrose match but they definietely deserved a
spot on the card, or even the pre-show.
I am really looking forward to this.
SummerSlam could potentially be the PPV of the year. Let’s all hope it
delivers.
Until the next one,
Zara
